Let`s Help Those Six UM Students!

This blog post is dedicated to the six students from the Chinese Language Society of Universiti Malaya. They were the organizing committee for a debate competition which was held on last 08/09.They invited some political figures to attend their debate as judges. These judges are Teresa Kok (Seputeh MP), Wong Nai Chee (MCA central committee member) and Koh Kok Wee (a political commentator).

It was a great event, according to my friend from UM,and I believe that those who attended the debate competition had learned and get know about some current issues in Malaysia. However, after about one month, these six students were charged by the university authority and are required to attend the proceeding on 12/10 which is this morning, after a few hours I publish this post I think. They were charged because the invited non members to involve in their event. This can be thought to be one of the steps that the University is limiting the right of their students to organized activities.

Typical Malaysian university.I bet not long after this (or I can say this is happening),we,the younger generation in Malaysia will become "Exam Machines" who don`t know anything other that exam and study.Wow!How great yea =) The younger generation who are ignorant to general knowledge, political and current issues. How can we pass the responsibilities for the young people to manage our country in future? In my opinion,I think that the university should support such event but not politicized it! besides, they as a university student should not be isolated from the society! It`s not wrong that they do something to encourage the youngsters to be sensitive to what is happening around them and to promote debating activities since debate can train critical thinking.

Well.I understand that what we can do is so little, but why don`t we gather the power to help them by just joining their group? If you feel like they shouldn`t be charged (these 6 students may be expelled from school if their absent for their proceeding) you can go to facebook and join their group.Or you can go to sign your name and this will be submitted to their vice chancellor.

Gambateh and good luck to the six students.Be strong! Many people are supporting you guys!!!

p/s : The University of Malaya is ranked at 181 among the top 200 university in the world.
